Underwater Sacredness
This underwater sculpture was also created to send a message. Instead of focusing on Earth’s salvation, this one offers salvation for the human soul. Italian sculptor Guido Galletti created Christ of the Abyss in 1956 and had it submerged 11 feet under the Meditteranean Sea, off the coast of Italy.

He created two others from the same mold and had each submerged in two other locations, off the coasts of Grenada and Key Largo, Florida. His statue depicts Christ raising his arms in benediction and peace and serves as a memorial to the lives that have been lost at sea.
