We promise we aren’t trying to pass off a silly children’s book character as a sea creature. On the contrary, this bizarre creature is part cute, part creepy, but all fish. This unusual fella is part of the anglerfish family and is incredibly rare. You will only find these creatures about 30 to 60 feet underwater off the coast of the Galapagos.

This creature may technically be a fish, but he isn’t a very good swimmer. Instead, they usually “walk” along the ocean floor. You may think that you are looking at fish legs in this picture, but those are his fins that have developed to allow him to stand on them and move around. We’re begging: will somebody please write a children’s book about the grumpy red-lipped batfish??
