Have a Merry Christmas (Tree Worm)
Don’t fret; this isn’t a scary critter hiding in your Christmas tree. Instead, this marine worm makes its home near Lizard Island, just by the Great Barrier Reef in Australia. They make their homes inside corals and are typically permanent residents once they settle in. Their name reflects their appearance, so your trees are safe!

Christmas tree worms are tiny, not even 4 cm tall, but they are incredibly easy to spot because of their bright, varied colors and unique shape. If you spot one, be careful that you don’t scare it away. It won’t go anywhere but will instead retreat into their burrows, where they’ve anchored themselves inside.
