I have gone through periods in my life where I didn’t have access to a car, and there are certain things that it just makes really difficult, such as driving across town to pick up some free office chairs from the random spot where they have been dumped.

But do you know whose problem your lack of a car is? It’s your problem. Do you know whose problem it isn’t? The person who is kindly offering you free furniture so that you don’t have to buy it yourself. They are trying to give you something for free; it is not their responsibility to deliver it to you.
