We learn and experience many things from our parents as children, but we often declare that we will always be sure to do the opposite. Sure, there are plenty of parts of our childhoods that we’re grateful for, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t things we want to leave behind and never think about again. Getting older means realizing you can create new traditions and forget certain ones for good. People took to the Internet to talk about things their parents did that they wished to leave behind. Some responses are sometimes severe and silly, and all are thought-provoking.
#1: Is It Too Late to Say Sorry?
It’s hard to say, but many parents, especially in the past, had very old-fashioned ideas about raising children: that children should be seen and not heard, that they should obey their parents without question, and that parents should maintain their authority no matter what.
But that’s ridiculous, because, guess what? Parents make mistakes! They are people; as everyone makes mistakes, they are not immune. And, if you think about it, your kids are more likely to respect you if they know that you are willing to be honest with them.
