Silence Your Cell Phones
Let this story be a harsh reminder to us all about the importance of airplane mode. Someone’s step-grandmother passed away during the cultural craze of the first Borat movie. This was around 2006, so people still customized the ringtones on their phones. During the grandmother’s service, someone’s phone went off. They had the worst ringtone imaginable for such a situation.
The person’s ringtone was a song from Borat, which is a famously satirical mockumentary with some pretty dark humor. The song’s lyrics said some inappropriate things about Jewish people (for the sake of comedy), which made things even worse because most of the funeral attendees were Jewish. The owner of the ringtone was also Jewish, so maybe that made the situation a little less awkward. (Probably not).
