One Last Hurrah
Every culture has its own funerary traditions. This one is truly unique! One storyteller was completely shocked when he attended a Taiwanese funeral because it felt more like a nightclub experience. There was loud music and strippers dancing all over the place. This may come as a surprise, but the practice of hiring funeral strippers is common in Taiwan.
No one’s sure where this practice came from, but it may stem from the tradition of hiring professional mourners. Hiring strippers to perform at a funeral is a way to, er, guarantee the service will be well attended. Although this practice is most common in Taiwan, it doesn’t happen at every funeral. Some people embrace the practice, while others think it’s inappropriate. Regardless of what we think, we have to admit that it’s pretty interesting!
