A Slight from the Queen?
During her reign, Queen Elizabeth II was steady, proper, and low-key. She never strayed too far from protocol in order to present herself as a stable monarch. It’s for this reason that she chose not to attend Prince Charles’ 2005 wedding to Camilla Parker Bowles. What many other families would view as a sign of disapproval actually had a legitimate reason behind it.
Since Queen Elizabeth was the head of the Church of England, she felt that it would be improper for her to attend the wedding. As we all know, this union is a second marriage for Charles and Camilla, whose first marriages both ended in divorce. The Church of England disapproves of remarriages, so Queen Elizabeth opted out in order to align with the church’s values. We can’t help but wonder if that was a hard decision to make!
