A Secret Documentary
Before Netflix’s The Crown, there was a banned documentary about the royal family. It’s not as scandalous as it sounds, so let us explain. Back in the 1960s, the Royal Family filmed a day-in-the-life documentary that showed the Queen engaged in mundane activities like eating dinner with her family and buying Prince Edward candy from a shop.
The documentary originally aired on the BBC in 1969, but was rarely seen for decades after that. Rumor has it that Queen Elizabeth requested the documentary be shelved in the archives, never to be seen again. People think the notoriously elusive Royal Family had it banned because it revealed too much of their lives. The film was mysteriously leaked on YouTube in 2021, and it’s still up if you want to watch it!
