The Royal Dorgi
Queen Elizabeth II became synonymous with her famous Welsh corgis during her reign. Her love of the breed started with her dad’s dog, Dookie, and continued all the way up to her final days. In addition to popularizing the adorable breed of dog, Queen Elizabeth is credited with inventing a new dog breed altogether!
Queen Elizabeth may have inadvertently created the first dorgi– a mix of corgi and dachshund. It all started when Queen Elizabeth’s sister, Princess Margaret, brought her dachshund Pipkin over to the palace. Pipkin got a moment alone with one of Queen Elizabeth’s corgis and the rest is history. The Queen loved the breed so much that she continued to breed dorgis after the happy accident occurred.
