Hats Off… or Not
It used to be that your outfit wasn’t complete unless you were wearing a hat with your dress. Things are obviously different nowadays, but the tradition of hat-wearing still stands for royal ladies. They are still required to wear hats or fascinators at every formal event. The rule dates back to the 1950s when it was deemed improper for a woman to show her bare head in public.
The Western-style rules are a bit different and more relaxed these days, but the rule remains. Nowadays, a hat can be interpreted as a status symbol since British royals are some of the few people who still wear them on occasion. In addition, there is a long list of do’s and don’ts when it comes to pairing the perfect hat with your dress. Who knew a simple hat could be so complicated?
