Criss Cross, Apple Sauce
Many of us cross our legs while sitting down without a second thought. Female members of the Royal Family, however, have to be very conscious of how they present themselves while sitting down. They are not allowed to sit with their legs crossed! The rules of etiquette dictate that royal women must sit with their ankles crossed and knees together to the side.
This posture is known as “The Duchess Slant” and is intended to make them look poised while sitting for a long period of time. In addition, this pose is helpful for when they’re being photographed head-on. It looks more modest, reveals less skin than crossing legs, and overall looks more elegant. Maybe we could all take some pointers from official royal etiquette!
