The “Off Limits” List
Of all the strange rules that British royals must follow, this has to be one of the weirdest. There are at least thirteen words that the Royal Family is not allowed to say out loud. These words are deemed completely inappropriate for royals, and some of them might surprise you.
One of those words is “tea.” This may seem shocking, but it has classist origins. Royals aren’t allowed to use the word “tea” in reference to their evening meal because it’s used by the working class. Gasp! Instead, they use the word “supper” or “dinner” because it’s used by the upper social classes in Britain. Some of the other words include “posh,” “dessert,” and “toilet.”
