#31: Tang
In the 1950s, General Foods scientist William Mitchell developed the formula for Tang, making it a staple in NASA’s space missions. By 1959, thanks to an endorsement by astronaut John Glenn, Tang became a household name, captivating the public with its space-age appeal and cementing its place in American culture.
Tang is synonymous with its iconic Orange flavor. It dominated beverage choices through the 20th century until the late 1990s when newcomers like Sunny D and Kool-Aid emerged. Despite this, Tang retains its global footprint in thirty-five countries, offering a variety of flavors catered to local tastes, with Orange Tang standing unwaveringly as its flagship flavor.
