#25: The Vitamin-Infused Doughnuts
Doughnuts, the sweet and fried delights, soared in popularity during World War I and managed to maintain their appeal amidst the trials of the Depression Era. The Doughnut Corporation of America ingeniously rebranded this sugary snack as a health food by boasting about its vitamin enrichment, capturing the hearts and stomachs of consumers for years to follow.

Despite their enticing promotion, the only ‘nutritious’ aspect of these doughnuts was the use of enriched flour, a standard for many bread-based items, which hardly qualified them as a health food. This clever marketing ploy by the corporation was essentially a strategic maneuver to increase sales by repositioning doughnuts as a healthier option than they truly were.
