#31: Salt Lake City, UT
Fans of deep-fried Southern chicken may be perplexed to hear that Salt Lake City, Utah, holds the bragging rights to Kentucky Fried Chicken. Colonel Harland Sanders first started selling his now-famous chicken at a roadside restaurant in Corbin, Kentucky, during the Depression. It did so well that in 1952, he opened his first franchise—in Salt Lake City, Utah.
That original franchise restaurant still stands there today. You can grab a bucket of chicken known for having a secret recipe or stroll through the mini-museum and take in all the KFC memorabilia houses there. Check out Col. Sander’s original, iconic suit or pressure cooker that made his chicken so moist and delicious.
