#28: Slab City, CA
Deep in the Sonoran Desert in California, you can visit a town that the rest of the world has largely left behind. This place is called Slab City, named for the concrete slabs that are remnants of a World War II Marine training camp. Today, it’s an unincorporated city with people looking to escape society.

Slab City is commonly considered a lawless town since the community has no official organization. However, the settlement isn’t entirely devoid of business and community organizations. You’ll find a hostel, an internet café, and even a skateboard park! They even have an outdoor music venue.
