About an hour from Anchorage, Alaska, lies a small town called Whittier on the Prince William Sound. It only has about 300 residents, as most people moved out after an earthquake in the 1960s. Due to extensive damage and most of the land in town being owned by the railroad, the remaining residents had one option: to move into the army barracks.

Most of the town’s residents live in this 14-story building, and all of their community needs are right there in the building: the post office, the school, and even the police department. The top floor is a bed and breakfast, so if you want to check out this town, they are ready to welcome you!
