#39: Lightning Never Strikes Twice
There’s a famous idiom according to which lightning never strikes twice, as a metaphor for a rare occurrence that doesn’t happen often. It’s often used to encourage people to take the opportunities life presents them with, as these opportunities might never return. However, lightning can absolutely strike the same place twice.
The mysterious case of Walter Summerford shows us that lightning can strike more than twice. Walter was struck by lightning three times in his lifetime—which is absolutely rare—and after his passing, his grave was struck by lightning. We know that lightning is drawn to metal and high surfaces, but no one knows what it was about Walter that attracted three lightning strikes.
