#38: Human Calculator
We know that math isn’t everyone’s strong suit. However, it’s safe to say that more people knew how to do basic math in their heads way back when. Before registers calculated the prices and change for us, people had to do those calculations in their heads. Most of us can barely do multiplication tables without a calculator.
That’s not to say that people back then were smarter. They just had to use their brains in a different way out of necessity. We’re sure that if we had to, we’d become really good at mental math to get by. The things that people are good at all depend on our environment and the necessary things to survive and thrive, including calculating change.
