The truth of this isn’t as far off as the poster thought in their childhood. You wouldn’t go off the rails immediately, but science has found evidence that if you have relatives who are alcoholics, you may be vulnerable to falling into alcoholism yourself.
It probably has something to do with an addictive personality, or perhaps the influence of such people in your life. There is possible evidence of an inherited gene that could contribute, but there’s no way to really know if the person with it will become an alcoholic or not. No matter who you are, you should drink responsibly.
