Oh dear. I don’t think this poster’s friend would have been a happy camper after this event. The reason you shouldn’t pour warm water on frostbite is because it could cause more damage to the tissue that has been frozen. You need to gradually restore warmth and feeling to your hand.
In the flip side, you should not be putting ice-cold water over your hand if it has been burnt because it will decrease bloodflow and get in the way of the healing process. Cool water is the best thing, as much like with frostbite, you want to gradually get your body away from the extreme temperature.
