The Shankill Butchers
The Shankill Butchers were a gang of ruthless murderers who terrorized Northern Ireland for nearly a decade, from 1975 to 1982. They were responsible for dozens of deaths, mainly targeting Catholics in a campaign of sectarian violence that left the entire community in fear. The violence that plagued the country during this period was often overlooked by the rest of the world, and the victims were forgotten.
Their brutal methods, which included using butcher knives to mutilate their victims, left a lasting scar on the people of Northern Ireland. 11 members of the group were sentenced to more than 40 years in prison for the murder of what authorities thought were 19 victims, but the true number was never exposed.
