Unsinkable Sam
Unsinkable Sam, the remarkable feline of World War II, achieved legendary status by surviving the sinking of not one, but three different ships. Originally the ship’s cat on the German battleship Bismarck, Sam miraculously survived its sinking in May 1941. He was then transferred to the British HMS Cossack, which was torpedoed and sunk in October 1941, but Sam, once again, emerged unscathed.

His third and final voyage was on the HMS Ark Royal, which met a similar fate in November 1941. Following this astonishing series of events, Sam’s seafaring days came to an end, and he retired to a life on land. His incredible ability to survive the perils of war and multiple shipwrecks made him a symbol of resilience and good fortune during one of the most turbulent periods in history.
