#27: The Value of Boredom
We are in a constant state of stimulation these days. Scrolling through our phones has become a bad habit for many of us. Why is it bad? Because staring blankly at a screen doesn’t let us feel boredom. Boredom is a valuable state of being, believe it or not. How many times did you make up a new game or think of creative ideas while you were “bored” at home?
Being bored or simply wasting time by ourselves is extremely valuable for our brains. It lets our creative juices flow and lets us work through thoughts and problems. That’s not really the case today. Instead of daydreaming or finding something creative to do, we often grab our phones and occupy our brains with mindless scrolling. We’re all becoming zombies, mesmerized by our tiny screens.
