#12: The Back of King Tut’s Head
In 1925, Howard Carter made history when he discovered the tomb of King Tutankhamen. The discovery was so significant because his tomb is the most complete example we have today of an ancient Egyptian royal burial. For the first time in modern civilization, we finally got a good look at the opulence and detail-rich world of the pharaohs.
For example, take a look at the back of King Tut’s mask. Most people are familiar with the face of his burial mask, but few have seen its back. Most people have probably never wondered what it looks like, and if they did, likely did not expect to see this! Look at the tremendous detail that went into this piece of art that was never intended to be seen by other humans.
