#25: RoboCop
When the initial RoboCop was released in 1987, it was a pretty mind-blowing film. The movie centers around a policeman killed in the line of duty, whose corpse is then used to create a cyborg cop. The movie designers created a robot costume for the actor to wear, but it was incredibly clunky and difficult to move in.
For the 2014 remake, the new filmmakers wanted a RoboCop who was a little sleeker and could move well. Clearly, another costume wouldn’t cut it, so what would a modern filmmaker do but resort to CGI? So, the RoboCop actor wore special headgear and sunglasses, allowing the special effects team to add a contemporary and realistic robot costume over him later.
