#8: Two Nobels vs. Two Dollars
Albert Einstein taught us that everything is relative. Even numbers. Is two dollars a lot? Not at all. But when you apply the number to Nobel Prizes, it’s a staggering number. The Nobel, first awarded in 1901, is the highest recognition a scientist can receive. It’s a lifetime goal for many researchers. It’s basically a scientific version of an EGOT (an Emmy, a Golden Globe, an Oscar, and a Tony).
Winning one Nobel is quite an achievement. But winning two? Almost next to impossible. It’s everyone’s dream, but so far, only four have achieved such a feat. Frederick Sanger, Linus Pauling, John Bardeen, and Marie Curie are the only people to have two Nobels on their resumes. In case you didn’t recognize her, Marie Curie is pictured in the top left of this meme.
