In the winter, the skin literally freaks out. But there is a simple solution to avoid bad skin when it gets cooler outside.
The outdoor air contains significantly less water when it is cold, compared to when it is warm.
At really cold temperatures, the air contains no water at all, which causes both skin and trachea to strike.
Even indoors it gets drier, the heated air loses a lot of moisture and, in the worst case, contains only a tenth as much moisture as the skin needs.
What happens to your skin when the air gets drier?
When you stay in dry air, the moisture evaporates out of your pores, which results in you being primarily dry, that is, your skin type may still be combined, but your outer skin layer is bleak. It can cause both flaky skin and acne – as the skin works hard to moisturize.
Protect your skin in the winter – step by step:
1. Choose a cream that actively binds moisture
Low-molecular-weight moisturizers such as urea and glycerol go down the skin and moisturize dry skin in depth, while ingredients with larger molecules, such as hyaluronic acid, provide a nice feeling of moisture on the skin surface and are preferred if you have combined or oily skin that is dry in the winter.
2. Peel and moisturize
Is it important to have a well-equipped bathroom cabinet in the winter. Peel the skin twice a week, and apply a moisturizer afterward. Invest in a moisturizer and have a moisturizer on hand during the day. The skin needs to regain the moisture it loses.
3. Protect the skin barrier
Already at less than 10 minus degrees, you start to risk cold damage to the skin. Protect the skin outdoors with a barrier cream, it folds as a protective barrier on the skin.
4. Increase moisture level indoors
The skin feels best at a humidity of 35-45 percent. In order to reach such humidity indoors in winter, different methods can be used. Humidifiers can be a great solution for improving your indoor environment. Don’t worry as you need to set the machine to 60 percent humidity before it starts to damage your walls.
Another method is to put bowls of water at home and at work. Try placing a bowl next to your computer, in the windows and on the bedside table. Green plants also help to increase humidity.
