The right foundation is really important as it forms the basis of your entire makeup. What does a flawless eye makeup do if the face color is similar to a carrot? Or does your foundation usually get cakey and messy? Read our tips on how to choose the right foundation for your undertone and how to choose the right texture for your skin.
Choose the right foundation – according to your undertone
To find out your undertone, there is a trick: look at your forearm.
Warm/golden undertones: The veins on your forearm go green or yellow-green. Then you should make use of warm shades and have a foundation that draws more yellow.
Neutral sub toner: The veins are both blue and green. Then you can choose from both hot and cold shades.
Rosy/cold undertone: The veins are blue, blue-green and blue-purple. You are best suited in cold shades and should find a foundation that is a little pink.
Choose the right foundation – according to your skin type:
If you have…
Dry or dehydrated skin: If you have easy flaking skin, powders can undesirably accentuate irregularities. Be careful about the moisturizing and choose a liquid foundation that moisturizes the skin.
Bold Skin: Avoid oil-based foundations as these can clog pores and lead to unwanted pimples and blemishes.
Sensitive skin: Anyone with a more sensitive skin type should test mineral makeup that does good for the skin and lets it breathe.
