Dancing With Richard Dreyfuss
“It was 1978 and I was at Studio 54 for the first time. I’d been reluctant to go, but a friend finally convinced me. It was midnight and I was feeling sorry for myself — no one had asked me to dance. The friend I’d arrived with was lost to me at that point. A wall went up, and the dance floor became huge as Donna Summer’s ‘Last Dance’ began to play. I mustered the courage to step onto the floor. When I looked up, I saw someone watching me who I thought I recognized.”
”I shouted above the music, ‘I know you!’ I immediately felt stupid. Everyone knew this person: He had just won the Academy Award for The Goodbye Girl. It was Richard Dreyfuss. He stepped onto the dance floor to join me. We danced and whirled and laughed. I was covered in sweat. My self-pity had melted away.”
