So many of the ideas that we have about colors and their associations are a lot more specific to culture than we realize. This means that they may be different in different cultures or in different time periods. For instance, did you know that pink used to be associated with masculinity?

Blue, which was associated with the Virgin Mary, was considered an appropriate color for girls. So, there was a period where little boys were likely to be dressed in pink, and little girls were likely to be dressed in blue. The moral of the story is these associations are all arbitrary, and we shouldn’t take any of them too seriously.
