Being in the middle of a divorce is like a game of tug-of-war but with more emotional baggage. About 1 in 3 parents admit to making their kids pick sides during a disagreement. You shouldn’t ask your kids to do this – you’re meant to set a good example.

Of course, I’ve learned a few tricks over the years to avoid being dragged into my parents’ arguments, such as bringing in the family dog to diffuse the situation. But being a child of divorce and having to deal with this on a regular occasion would not be an easy thing to deal with.
