#7: Popsicles
Popsicles were an integral part of my summers growing up, as I imagine they were for many of you. It was such a treat on a hot July day when Mom would buy a big bag of popsicles so that we could cool down, even though in retrospect, I realized that it is essentially just frozen sugar water.
But how were they invented? Well, as the story goes, it was an accident. An 11-year-old boy named Frank Epperson had a drink with a stirring stick in it that he left outside overnight during cold weather. It froze with the stick still in it, and he realized he had come up with a delicious snack with a convenient handle.
