Barber Shop Talk
Manners are usually a saving grace in any situation, but not for this guy. He was getting his hair cut and making small talk with the barber. The barber asked what our storyteller did for a living– one of the most common get-to-know-you questions in the book. Our storyteller said he was an accountant and then proceeded to ask the barber what they did for a living. Whoops!
This is giving the same embarrassing energy as when you accidentally say, “You too!” to a waiter who drops off your food and says, “Enjoy!” Sometimes our manners kick in before we can register who we’re talking to and in what context. Thankfully this was a small slip-up. Even though it was a bit embarrassing, it wasn’t something they couldn’t recover from.
