#33: False Damages
This Airbnb story is every guest’s worst nightmare. This guy had a perfectly normal, pleasant stay at a condo in Long Beach, CA. He checked out, went home, and carried on with his life. Out of nowhere, the host accused him of breaking the fridge and TV, and somehow spilling oil all over their couch. They tried to charge him $7,000 in damages!
None of these accusations were true. He hadn’t even met the hosts during his stay, so he was shocked to hear that they were coming after him for no good reason. Thankfully, the host’s little scam didn’t work. Airbnb asked the host for photographic proof of the damages, and they didn’t send any. Hmm, I wonder why?! Thankfully, that was the end of that, and he didn’t have to pay the $7,000 fine.
