9. There Are no Exploding Christmas Trees
Each holiday season, there’s a flurry of cautionary tales about Christmas trees spontaneously combusting, often attributed to dryness or faulty lights. However, the reality is far less dramatic. Research by the National Fire Protection Association reveals that from 2006 to 2011, Christmas trees were the cause of only about 230 fires annually – a minuscule number considering the millions of homes that celebrate with a tree.

Interestingly, these fires rarely occurred before Christmas, suggesting that promptly removing dry trees post-holiday is an effective preventive measure. In contrast, the real holiday hazard seems to be decorating-related accidents, with emergency rooms treating roughly 5,800 falls each year caused by people losing their balance while adorning their trees.
