#40: Hold the Butter in Burnt Corn, AL
Here’s another entry for the weird town names list. Thankfully, Burnt Corn, Alabama, doesn’t still smell like burnt corn, but it got its name because settlers first discovered a pile of burning corn when they came to the area. There’s also debate that perhaps some Native Americans burned their corn.
It’s mostly empty today, but tourists can drive through and see many old places still standing. It’s one of Alabama’s first settlements, so it’s rich with history. You can see historic barns and churches, visit the old post office and stores, or even snap a picture of a Coca-Cola mural painted in 1930. It’s a charming town, even if there’s not much to do.
