#34: Almost the Eskimo Way in Igloo, AK
Many kids imagine that Alaska is full of igloos and probably even think they could stay in one if they ever visit that far north destination. But, of course, grown-ups know that isn’t a reality. Except it nearly was because, in the 1970s, somebody tried to build an igloo-shaped hotel.
The four-story structure was never completed because the building could not meet the required building safety codes, so the project stopped. Over the years, many new buyers tried to remodel it and bring it up to code but failed each time. So today, it still stands in the middle of nowhere, empty and abandoned. It does make a terrific picture, though, if you ever drive by!
