#31: You Can Become Anonymous in Nameless, TN
Don’t be confused if you spot Nameless, Tennesse, on a map. The town indeed has a name: Nameless. The mapmakers didn’t get lazy. The town got its unique name because its founders couldn’t agree on a name, so when they filled out their paperwork and sent it to Washington, they left the name blank. Washington sent it back labeled “Nameless,” and the name stuck!
Central to the lore of this town is its old General Store. It had shut down after its heyday in the 1950s, but the deceased owner’s son restored it to its original glory. However, he only opens the store four days each year, so be sure to time your visit right. In those days, the store becomes a great big hangout for the townsfolk.
