#30: No Jolly Old Elf in Santa Claus, AZ
We love Christmas and Santa as much as the next person, but we must admit that even we are skeptical about a Christmas-themed town in the desert. However, back in 1940, it sure seemed like a good idea to Nina Talbot. She bought the town in Arizona intending to sell off parcels for home builders. She thought that adding a Christmas theme would attract buyers.

It didn’t work, but it did attract tourists. For several years, people would flock to this not-so-winter wonderland to enjoy a piece of the holidays all year round. However, business started to decline by the 1970s, and by the mid-90s, every business had gone under. Today, you can still drive through and see the abandoned Christmas buildings.
