Johnny Bravo Is Not Subtle At All
As we mentioned before, in Johnny Bravo, inappropriate jokes are not subtle comments or background noise but the entire premise of the show. Today, the blonde womanizer has joined the list of things we can’t believe were acceptable barely two decades ago. The arrogant, overconfident, lustful cartoon character seems like the perfect representation of hypermasculinity.
Although we may think that the show producers were glorifying this kind of masculine behavior, after a deeper look, we can see that’s not exactly the case. The show actually seemed to satirize hypermasculinity instead of exalting it. Johnny is strong and handsome, but he’s also comically foolish and even lacking intelligence.
