#23: Godzilla
The Godzilla movies have been around since the early 1950s, and the story clearly has a lasting appeal. For some reason, people just love a story about a giant lizard on a rampage destroying entire cities. Unfortunately, CGI didn’t exist for the first several decades worth of these films, so Godzilla was portrayed by a man in a lizard costume destroying a model city.
That was fun to watch, but let’s face it – it didn’t look at all realistic. However, thanks to advancements in special effects, today, we can see Godzilla appear to be interacting with humans and destroying their surroundings. Seeing a more realistic depiction of what an oversized Jurassic lizard can do to a city has made these films more terrifying.
