What is a director to do when a live-action film script calls for a walking, talking raccoon? Cast his brother, of course! Well, sort of. Director James Gunn knew he needed to get Rocket just right, or audiences could revolt, so the only choice was to use a green morph suit so he could CGI the character in after filming.

Actor Bradley Cooper is very popular, so it makes sense that he was hired to voice Rocket, but forgive us for saying so: he’s no motion reference actor. That’s how director James Gunn came to hire his brother Sean to play Rocket’s body. Sean is incredibly limber and flexible, making him perfect for portraying the physicality of a large, upright raccoon. What a resume booster!
