We can all agree that potatoes are glorious food, no matter how prepared. But have you ever wondered how people came up with various ways to serve potatoes—mashed, roasted, boiled, hash browns, fries? Well, at least for potato chips, we may know the answer.

The story goes that a cook called George Crum had a customer complaining about his French fries, claiming they were too thick and too soggy.
