#43: How to Be a Lady
When you come across Mrs. Beeton’s Book of Household Management from 1909, you know you’ve struck domestic gold – or at least a really heavy book that might come in handy if you need to press some flowers. Maybe this book was a prized possession of a Victorian-era housewife, or maybe it was just a really fancy doorstop that your great-grandma used to prop open her garden shed.
Either way, this book is like a window into a time when women ruled the household, and the height of culinary sophistication was boiled cabbage. And now that this person found this book, they can feel like a true domestic goddess themself. It might be outdated, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t an interesting part of history.
