#6: Jackson Pollock
Celebrated as a pioneer of abstract expressionism, Jackson Pollock led a life marked by creative brilliance and personal turmoil. Born in Wyoming in 1912, Pollock’s artistic journey began with his training under Thomas Hart Benton. However, his experimentation with the drip technique, characterized by pouring and splattering paint onto canvas, catapulted him to fame.
Despite critical acclaim for his innovative approach to art, Pollock grappled with inner demons and alcoholism. His life tragically ended in a car accident in 1956. In this image, he is seen entering his East Hampton studio, The Springs, with a cigarette in his mouth – which was very typical for him. His presence transforms the space, ready to breathe life into new masterpieces.
